The tranquil waters of Jaltemba Bay and the mile-long Playa Guayabitos beach make this area about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta one of the hottest destinations in the Riviera Nayarit for budget-conscious travelers.
Guayabitos’ busy Zona Hotelera is located along the south end of the beach. The area is teeming with hotels, bungalows, condos, trailer parks and other accommodations geared towards vacationers on a budget. There’s always something going on here, where resorts and restaurants line the beach and vendors ply their wares.
The Zona Residencial, at the north end of Playa Guayabitos, is where more affluent vacationers can be found. This part of town is mostly comprised of second residences and vacation homes with beautifully manicured gardens situated along the windy, cobblestoned street. The beach is much quieter here with few swimmers and sunbathers.
About a five-minute ride south of Rincon de Guayabitos is Playa Los Ayala, the smallest and southern-most village on the shores of Jaltemba Bay. With a year-round residential population of just over 600 people, the village of Los Ayala is usually fairly quiet.
North of Rincon lies the town of La Peñita de Jaltemba which provides most of the commercial and public services for the Jaltemba Bay and surrounding area as far south as San Pancho.
