Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone
Once a quiet beach town, as Puerto Vallarta grew more well known as a visitor hub, it inevitably began extending outwards. From Old Town northwards, the pristine shoreline became a central part of the region, offering newer luxury accommodation and of course exclusive resorts to host the thousands of visitors to the area. That new area is known as the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone, and today, this stretch of the Banderas Bay is where you’ll find the most renowned resorts and hotels.
The Hotel Zone is an easy ten-minute drive from the airport, running parallel to the shore along the city’s main road, Blvd. Francisco Medina Ascencio. You’ll find plenty of well-known hotels like Holiday Inn and the Sheraton, as well as local hotels, which can provide a variety of comprehensive vacation packages. Some rental accommodation is also available in the Hotel Zone, mainly condominiums.
The heart of the action when it comes to Puerto Vallarta, the Hotel Zone stretches between the city’s Maritime Terminal, the central cruise ship docking location, and the downtown area. You can find lots of public buses from the Hotel Zone, so you’ll love spreading out and discovering all that Puerto Vallarta has to offer. Most larger hotels have their own taxi stand so you don’t even need to step outside if you’re trying to get somewhere in a hurry.
But don’t hurry off too fast: right here in the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone, there are four gorgeous, spacious beaches: Playa de Oro, Playa Los Tules, Playa Las Glorias and Playa Tranquila. The swimming is great, with mild waves and a safe, secure swimming area perfect for families. You can even walk from one beach to another without losing sight of the glorious ocean view. Some resorts offer private beaches, while others are open to the public. Wherever you stay, chances are you’ll have easy access to your favorite beach so you can sink your toes into the warm, relaxing sand whenever you’d like.
Beyond accommodations, you’ll find so much more in the Hotel Zone: from fine dining, exclusive boutiques and financial services to movies, shopping and department stores, everything you could want is within easy walking distance.
In fact, so many people have come to love the Hotel Zone that they’ve decided to retire there. And why not? With great public transit and other amenities, along with reasonable housing prices, many people dream of retiring under Puerto Vallarta’s sunny skies.
In the past, there has been a shortage of longer-term residential accommodations, with most of the area taken up by hotels. Properties that were available for purchase were in the less desirable Los Versalles, Fluvial and El Pitillal neighborhoods, further away from the beaches. However, a recent growth in high-rise oceanfront condos has opened up some of the most desirable locations in the area for purchase as a retirement destination. These new condos tower up to twenty stories over the beaches’ sands, so the last thing you see each night will be the glittering Banderas Bay and downtown Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone.
